Session Description

The AANS sessions on Sunday will feature two sessions on spine trauma and two on cranial trauma. 

AANS01 – Management of the Unstable Spine discusses the latest techniques for cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine surgery. Newer techniques discussed will include minimally invasive and lateral approaches.

AANS02 – Educates surgeons about the newest data on brain tissue oxygen monitoring of brain injured patients. In addition one talk discusses how vascular cranial trauma can be treated using light therapy.

AANS03 – Educates surgeons about factors impacting recovery from spine injury. It discusses severak new experimental techniques for improving outcomes after spine surgery using robots, stem cells and nerve transfer.

AANS04 – Educates surgeons regarding outcomes after brain injury ranging in severity from mild to severe.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:

  1. Describe new techniques and the latest data on spine and cranial surgical procedures
  2. Learn about outcomes after spine and cranial surgery (best practices based on evidence based medicine)
  3. Understand prognosis so that physicians may educate their patients accordingly.
